Historically and present Ullrigg is the front runner within applied research, testing, and verification for the industry of Energy.
The Ullrigg drilling and Well Centre includes a full-scale offshore type drilling rig with access to seven wells. The drilling rig, Ullrigg, was built in 1985 and is constantly being modified to support research programs, technology development and testing requirements. Next to ongoing research programs, Ullrigg is typical used to verify new technology, drilling and completion tests and training. New Top Drive Drilling system was installed in 2009. The activities on Ullrigg provides improvements and new capabilities for oil & gas that will be directly applicable for drilling operations for deep geothermal energy recovery and, - in the future - also for drilling related to CO2 handling/storage.
