The main aim of this research is to develop models for better reservoir description and utilization. The focus is on developing methodology suitable for real-time applications and thereby enabling improved reservoir drainage strategy. Our activities include both history matching using adaptive multiscale estimation and update of reservoir models using the ensemble Kalman filter. We also have an ongoing activity around well-reservoir interaction.

Over the last 10 years we have performed research on a variety of topics, including (a) understanding poroperm trends in the chalk, (b) investigating spatial permeability trends in Miocene turbiditic deposits, (c) investigating the reservoir architecture and gamma-ray diagnostics of selected Namurian turbidites and intercalated hemipelagic shales (d) palaeowater-depth estimation based on Sr/Ca in benthic foraminifera, (e) modelling thermal conductivity of siliciclastic deposits.
Since 2003 we have focused our research on understanding the spatial distribution of porosity and permeability in carbonate reservoirs (www.carbonateresearchgroup.com).
We collaborate closely with the University of Bergen (Dept. of Earth Science and CIPR) and University of Tromsø (Dept. of Geology), and this collaboration means that MSc and PhD students work on most of our projects. We also enjoy a most fruitful collaboration with Cambridge Carbonates Ltd. (UK) and the University of Granada (Dept. of Stratigraphy and Palaeontology)
