Microbial Improved Oil Recovery

Microbes are able to mobilize residual oil from oil reservoirs when stimulated. This oil recovery effect has been claimed as a process based on core floods and field tests.

Typically these studies report of microbial mobilization of the residual oil (0 to 20%), but generally without any results explaining the mechanisms behind the MIOR process.
Our project addresses this problem by focusing on the mechanisms
(table 1) and the microbes involved.
Results from simple experimental model setups support mathematical models that are necessary for the evaluation and control of the process if used in real off shore operations. Read more
